The High Court sitting at Phalombe has sentenced to life imprisonment Patrick Thomson Muhevule for the murder of Yosefe Muyaya, a 14-year-old boy with albinism.
The court has further sentenced Muhevule to 25 years imprisonment for extracting human tissue and 25 years for trafficking in persons.
In the matter, the convict was charged along with five others on counts relating to murder, extraction of human tissue and trafficking in persons. While Muhevule was convicted on all counts, Justice Violet Chipao has found the 5th accused person, Frank Nakuphethe and the 6th accused person, Liston Mapondo Kachochola not guilty and they have since been acquitted.
The High Court has found that there was no sufficient evidence to prove that the 5th accused person and the 6th accused person committed the offenses they were charged with.
Initially, the case involved six accused persons, but the 2nd accused person in the matter, Zione Mukhala passed on at a time the trial had just commenced.
The 3rd accused person, Felix Jafali Kilimani and the 4th accused person, Felix Stone, were found with no case to answer and were acquitted soon after the State finished parading their witnesses.
“We are happy with the judgment because it is a true reflection of the evidence that was presented in court.
“We are happy for the four accused persons who have been acquitted in this matter,” expressed Counsel Mdazizira.
