On the 5th and 6th March 2025, the Bureau was engaged in awareness campaigns in the outskirts of Dedza district at Khwakhwa VDC and Mbilima Primary School in the area of T/A Chauma.
The activities were carried out in collaboration with constitutional bodies, namely the Malawi Human Rights Commission, Office of the Ombudsman, Malawi Police Service, Malawi Prison Service, the Judiciary, and the Ministry of Justice.
During the two events, it was emphasized that these institutions work hand in hand to assist people in accessing justice irrespective of their locations and vulnerability. It was further outlined that their offices are always open to assist all people in need.
At Khwakwa VDC, Assistant Legal Aid Officer Tamanda Kakhuta Banda explained that the Legal Aid Bureau is always available and targets vulnerable people like women, children, the elderly, and the sick.

“You do not have to suffer gender-based violence when you have the Bureau near you, ready to help. Simply visit our office at Dedza boma and you will be assisted,” she added.
The rest of the Implementing Partners attending the event also made presentations relating to their roles in the provision of justice where it was explained that there is a referral system in place among them.
At Mbilima Primary School, the Bureau took time to take statements from women who needed legal advice and assistance. The moment, which posed as a legal aid clinic, helped the women to get immediate assistance without walking to LAB offices.
The activities were organized with funding from the European Union under the Chilungamo Programme 2 gender pool funds.
