LAB trains new officers

Newly recruited officers of the Malawi Legal Aid Bureau (LAB) Head Office in Lilongwe have been inducted on Monday, 30 October 2023, with a call to achieve the highest standards at work.

They included Senior Legal Aid Advocates, Legal Aid Officers, Process Servers, Senior Clerical Officers, and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. The intention of the training according to LAB’s Human Resources Management Officer, Lucas Charles, was to familiarize the officers with the functions of the Bureau and its internal departments.

With presentations made by heads of accounts, audit, ICT, planning, procurement, administration, and legal departments, the employees have been reminded that they are an integral link between the government agency and its clients.

Chief Legal Aid Advocate for Lilongwe, Bwighane Mwenifumbo, indicated that all officers of the Bureau must at all times show a welcoming face to all clients.

“Please desist from anything that may lead to corruption and fraud because these actions can ruin the reputation of the institution and work ethics,” said Mwenifumbo.

As she stressed that the Bureau is serious about client handling, she added that it is never a good sight to have officers disciplined and dismissed from work resulting from malpractices.

Legal Aid Officers have specifically been told to make use of the Bureau’s case management system (Case Plus) on all cases being handled. Updating information related to the cases on Case Plus ensures smooth case handling and accountability.

A similar activity is expected to be conducted in all regional offices of the Bureau based on ‘doing what we can with what we have.’
